Guangzhou Day 9: Made it!

Zhengzhou & Guangzhou, China
Saturday, September 1, 2012

Ok, so we were supposed to have our luggage outside our doors by 9:40am for the bellboy to pick up.   So we got up at our normal time, got dressed, had breakfast and came back to the room to wait.... not a good thing to do with a toddler...

I'm content....
I'm BORED!!
So... by 9am... we went for a walk down the Long Hallway, down four flights of stairs, around the lobby and back to the room.... then it was 9:25.   By 9:30, I had was moving our luggage into the hallway.   As you can imagine, this made B'Elanna nervous and anxious.   When the bellboy came and started to load our luggage, she started to whine and scratch herself.... I turned to her... held out my arms and said "Ready to go?" and she reached right up to be picked up and held onto my neck for the entire elevator ride.  When we got to the lobby, she saw all the other families and was happy to sit in the stroller again.... as long as Grammy was pushing it around and around and around the lobby.... while Mommy checked out.   We loaded the bus abourt 10am and while we were enroute to the airport, I started to put on the baby carrier, when we were about 5 minutes out... I strapped B'Elanna in.   She didn't like it... but I was not going to deal with airport, luggage, security and a toddler.   She pretty much zoned out and went to sleep as soon as we were there and woke up right as we were heading to security and saying good-bye to our WONDERFUL Guides Yisha and Rita!!!  They will forever be a bright spot in our adoption story!!

At the airport... completely shutdown and scared.
Our Asst. Guide Rita
Our Primary Guide Yisha
Of course, I had to take B'Elanna off going through security which really freaked her out.   On the other side, we were trying to get everything put away, get her diaper changed, go to the bathroom and then we saw one of our travel mates motioning for us to hurry.   The plane was LOADING!!   So we rush there, get to our seats, get situated and SIT and Sit and Sit.    B'Elanna, of course, did NOT want to be buckled in... so we sat and played "Locked/Unlocked" with her belt.

Let's play with the Air
Locked....
Unlocked.
And we still sat there... and then they brought out the food and drinks.  FYI for future travelers... just because you have purchased your child a ticket does not mean they will necessarily give her food.   I had to request it and then they looked at me like I was crazy.... I just pointed to her and the seat and asked for her meal too!    So we were in the middle of the food when suddenly, they were coming through and collecting all the food.... Yep... you guessed it.   She MELTED DOWN!!!   There was not buckling her in and no stopping her screaming.... until we started to take off.... then she stopped and I was able to get her to look out the window.   It was a VERY LONG flight and all I can say is Thank goodness for benadryl and ... YES.... I will be testing it BEFORE our next flight!!!!

During the flight, B'Elanna decided she likes Grammy and was sitting on her and playing a game of putting the plastic spoon in her mouth.   At one point... she put it in too far and Grammy started choking.   I started laughing and said "Wouldn't that have been a good memory... you vomiting on your granddaughter!!"

We landed and met our new guides... Grace and Kathy.  They were awesome!!  First stop once we all got together was the Bathroom, then the trek to the bus... where they gave us WATER!!!!  They were very patient during the ride to the hotel.   They were giving up A LOT of information and of course who had a melt down... B'Elanna.  Why... because mean ole Mommy won't let me climb the curtains on the bus or the back of the seat AND THEN she had the Nerve not to move seats when I repeatedly kicked her and screamed at her!!!   The NERVE!!
Kathy and Grace... they are so loving and friendly!!
When we got to the hotel... it was WONDERFULLY Airconditioned!!!   And our room had a pack & play crib set up and I found this wonderful gift basket on the desk.  FYI... some rooms have standard cribs... we just happened to get a pack & play.
